Storify + Mission Shooting = useful tool for sad story

My roommate just started working at Storify – a service that allows you to quickly aggregate news stories from different sources. There was a violent shooting in my neighborhood tonight with a slightly higher than average number of shots fired (20), so I thought it was a good time to try it out. Sort of a morbid use case, but you can see for yourself…

Farewell to San Francisco (for now at least!)

Well.. it seems as though my summer in SF is coming to an end. I have been SOO busy at work the last few weeks… I had 2 big projects to finish for my department and then I was working hard on wrapping up our final group project for our internship program. I think overall it was a very good experience.. Our group project was a lot of work but overall somewhat rewarding. We gave our presentation on the 7th, and it was a hit! We did some good work.

The next leg of my summer (or what’s left of it) will be a family trip in Germany. I leave on Sunday (the 12th). We’ll be staying with a family that my brother did an exchange with 2 years ago in the southern part of Germany called Bavaria.. The city we’re staying in is called Friedburg, and its about an hour south of Munich. Hopefully we’ll have time to travel a bit around the country!

Mr. T monument…

A perfect example of the quirky people that live here in San Francisco… Some guy made and collected dolls of Mr. T. A bar in the Tenderloin (one of the sketchier neighborhoods of San Francisco) put them on display for a short while by pinning them up on their wall. Preston took pictures of the whole event, and you can see them by clicking here.

We decided that since we have such a sweet (…and expensive) apartment, we should have weekly cocktail hours at our house.  It all started because we had a TON of leftover salads and food from Brendan’s Midwest Salad-themed graduation party… and now has evolved into a weekly cocktail hour and a website!  So, if you’re in San Francisco and reading this, come on over every Tuesday from 6 to 10.  We have a new theme each week!  If you’re not here, you can check out our website at sfdrunk.com.

Whew! Its been a fast couple of weeks!

So.. I haven’t posted in awhile.. but to sum up the last few weeks I have

delorespark.jpgGone to 1 horse race and lost $18 but got a free t-shirt! “Run” 1 crazy “race” called bay-to-breakers in which 50,000 people throw tortillas, dress up in crazy costumes, build floats (usually having to do with carrying a kegger), and drink heavily

Rolled down 2 hills in a park (this park in fact..)

Eaten burritos 3 times in Delores Park (see Left) and gone to 3 awesome concerts (Mason Jennings, Manu Chao, and Afrodesiac–a brass band with African influence)

Gone to at least 4 of the 578 taquerías within 4 blocks of my apartment. (A taquería is pretty much kicks the shit out of all other Mexican restaurants.. and its fast food style.)

Attended 5 different different events in 1 day.. namely the Mission Carnival parade and festival, an awesome designer fair in Hayes Valley, Opera in the Park, and drank 5 drinks at local bars in the mission.. (does that count?)

So thats about it for the last few weeks.. =) I’m lookin’ forward to my parents coming in a few weeks!
